She was 77 years of age and was the mother of P H HUNKER, the first manufacturer of candy in this city. from The Pittsburgh Press dated Tuesday, September 10 1889 (page 5): Susanna SHANNON, widow of the late James SHANNON, died on Sunday at the home of her son-in-law, C F LEONARD, at Brushton Station. She was 77 years of age and an estimable woman. NOTES: The Allegheny Cemetery site notes burial in Section 14, Lot 60 (HUNKER lot). >From census, she appears to have been first married to John HUNKER, by whom she had William P HUNKER (Secretary of the Poor Board referenced above). By 1850, she is married to James SHANNON, with children Thomas (a possible), Virginia, James and Susanna (Mrs Charles F LEONARD). She is noted as being born in Kentucky and is probably a sister-in-law of Peter H HUNKER (the confectioner). Her birth surname may be some variation of DUMMETT.
