Sims Tarentum Richard L. "Dick" Sims, 79, of Tarentum, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, in Alle- Kiski Medical Center, Natrona Heights. He had been ill the past six weeks. He was born June 29, 1928, in Findley Township, a son of the late Ralph W. Sims Sr., who died in 1966, and Dora Belle Ross Sims, who died in 1961. He had lived his entire life in Tarentum. He was the maintenance supervisor for Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp., Brackenridge, for 45 years, until his retirement in 1990. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, where he was a plank member of the maiden voyage of USS Philippine Sea Aircraft Carrier and was part of the crew that escorted Admiral Boyd on his Antarctica expedition. He was a member of Tarentum Eagles, where he was past worthy president, Tarentum Elks, Tarentum VFW, Tarentum Jednota, Oregon Club in Brackenridge and was a life member of Highland Hose. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Natrona Heights. He enjoyed playing euchre with the Tarentum Elks and was a very sociable person of many different clubs. He enjoyed being with his many friends and especially with his family. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley L. (Mack) Sims; daughter, Cheryl L. (Paul) Sims-Zobisch, of Allen, Texas; son, Ronald S. (Annie) Sims, of Richmond, Ky.; daughter, Vickie D. Sims, of Tarentum; daughter, Linda J. Sims, of San Mateo, Calif.; grandson, Heath S. (Jessica) Thimons, of Allen, Texas; granddaughter, Brandy L. (Marshall) Hampton, of McKinney, Texas; grandson, Steven M. Thimons, of Allen, Texas; granddaughter, Renee K. (Billy) Wellinghurst, of Richmond, Ky.; grandson, Joshua S. (Jennifer) Sims, of Richmond, Ky.; seven, great- grandchildren, Reece and Hailey Thimons, Marshall and Brayden Hampton, Will and Owen Wellinghurst and Maddie Sims; sisters, Connie Baker, of Lower Burrell, Audrey Wilson, of Lower Burrell;Eileen (Henry) Geahry, of Tarentum, and Carol (Anthony) Licata, of Arnold; brothers, Robert C. (Donna) Sims, of Tarentum, William B. (Patricia) Sims, of Natrona Heights, James A. (Lisa) Sims, of Tarentum. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jane Boda; and a brother, Ralph W. Sims Jr. Relatives and friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday in the DUSTER FUNERAL HOME INC., Tenth Avenue at Corbet Street, Tarentum, where services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Barbara A. Ravenstahl of Faith Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Gardens Indiana Township, where full military honors will be accorded by the Tarentum VFW. The following organizations will meet in the funeral home; Tarentum Elks at 6:30 p.m., Oregon Club at 7 p.m. Highland Hose at 7:15 p.m., Tarentum Eagles at 7:30 p.m., all on Friday.
