Judge Snyder, 64, of 6942 Rosewood St., Point Breeze, died at Good Samaritan Hospital, to which he was admitted Thursday night after collapsing in the lobby of the Regency Hyatt Hotel. He was stricken after having dinner with a fellow jurist, Judge William D. Knox, who also was attending the seminar. Judge Snyder and Knox, along with seven other local judges, had been attending the seminar since Tuesday. Knox administered mouth-to-mouth resuscitation until paramedics arrived. Snyder was then rushed to the intensive care unit of the hospital. Judge Snyder's wife, Martha, and two of his sons, Robert, an orthopedic surgeon from Nashville, and David of Harrisburg, arrived in Lexington several hours after the judge was stricken. A third son, Daniel J. III, is a former regional administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Robert Snyder said his father had minor heart problems in the past. A native of Greensburg, Judge Snyder was the son of the late Judge Daniel J. Snyder Sr., who served for 20 years as president judge of Orphans Court in Westmoreland County. He was a graduate of Wooster College of Ohio and the University of Pittsburgh law school's class of 1940. Snyder, Hubert Teitelbaum, a federal judge here, and D. Malcolm Anderson, a former assistant U.S. attorney, were among the top graduates of that class. Judge Snyder served as an assistant U.S. attorney from 1957 to 1960 and was appointed to the federal bench by President Nixon in 1973. He replaced Judge Joseph F. Weis, who was appointed o the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals. Judge Snyder, a Republican, was admitted to the bar in 1941, and served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. During World War II, he served in the psychological warfare section of Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces. He was Greensburg's solicitor for three years - until 1956 - and served in a similar capacity with the Greensburg Sewage Authority and the Greater Greensburg Joint School Board. Judge Snyder was a board member of the St. Paul Home in Greensville and received the Silver Beaver Award for his service to the Boy Scouts. He also served as president of the Greensburg Community Concert Association; as a trustee of the Lancaster Theological Seminary, Lancaster County, and as a member of East Liberty Presbyterian Church. He was active in the United Church of Christ and in Church World Service, an international relief organization. In his last major case, Snyder ruled that the Thornburgh administration could remove college students from welfare rolls if their families had no previous history of dependence on public assistance. Friends will be received from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. tomorrow at the H. Samson Inc. Funeral Home, 537 N. Neville Ave., Oakland. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The family suggests memorial contribution be made to Church World Service. Additional Comments: Judge Snyder was buried on May 13, 1980 at St. Clair Cemetry, Greensburg, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania.
