The coroner was requested to go to Jones' Ferry and hold an inquest. from The Pittsburgh Commercial Gazette dated Monday, August 6, 1877 (page 4): The Death of Wm A Stoop William A STOOP (not STREUB) was the name of the man killed at Jones' ferry landing, on the South Side, Friday night, by being run over by a train on the Pan Handle Railroad. He was conductor on a night shifting engine, and resided at No. 28 Morton street, Allegheny, where he leaves a wife and two children. The Coroner could not secure on Saturday the attendance of the crew of the train which ran over the deceased, and he adjourned the inquest until nine o'clock this morning, at his office. from the City of Pittsburgh Death Records: William A STOOP, aged 26 years, married, railroad conductor, died August 3, 1877, killed on railroad; born in Ohio; lived on Morton Street; burial in Allegheny Cemetery on August 5, 1877. NOTES: City directories and census suggest that the wife is Elizabeth with daughters Ann and Lizzie. Census suggests that he is the son of John and Ann STOOP of Ohio.
