(Pittsburgh, Pa.): July 27, 1864 Killed in the battle of the Wilderness, on Saturday, May 6th, 1864, Mr. Samuel T. Woods, son of John Woods, Esq., of Snowden Twp., Allegheny County, Pa., aged 21 years, 3 months, and 18 days. He was killed almost instantly, perhaps by some rebel sharpshooter. This brave and patriotic young man was prosecuting his College studies at Canonsburg, with interest and profit; was in his junior year, and, as we suppose, having the ministry in prospect, when he heard the earnest and loud call of his bleeding country, and made an immediate resolve to go forth in her defense as well as of the principles of well regulated liberty, against tyranny and a rebellion the most atrocious and wicked the world has ever seen. He had been for some seven years an upright and worthy member of Bethel church, and the grand son of her second pastor. His death was sudden and solemn, painful and distressing in the extreme to his father, stepmother, brother and sisters...
