All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/allegheny/ ________________________________________________ Taken from McDonald Pa Outlook 19 Jan 1922 Pittsburgh, Jan 14.---Erasmus WILSON, well known newspaper man and for thirty-six years conductor of the "Quiet Observer" column in the Pittsburgh Gazette Times, died in Pittsburgh, Saturday, January 14, 1922, at the age of 79 years. Death came in the Presbyterian Hospital here after a brief illness resulting from acute indigestion, which brought on heart trouble. He was author of several historical works, and was president emeritus of the Pittsburgh Boy Scouts. He was widely know throughout Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh district, and frequently was in demand as a lecturer. The "Quiet Observer" column first appeared in the Dispatch thirty-six years ago. Later WILSON went to the Gazette Times, where the column was continued until his death. Mr. WILSON was born June 10, 1842 in Belmont county, Ohio. His first newspaper work was done on the old Washington, Pa. Advance. Going to Pittsburgh he did his first work on the Leader, then went to the old Commercial Gazette, and worked on other papers before going to the Gazette Times, on the staff of which paper he had been many years. He served in Company E, Ninety-eighth Ohio Infantry, during the Civil War, and was wounded in the fighting. Mr. WILSON for several years had his home with Dr. and Mrs. C. M. WATSON, Orleans street, North Side.
