John M. Wittman, a well known business man of the borough, died Wednesday morning suddenly after an illness of several weeks. Mr. Wittman was born in the borough, the son of Joseph and Barbara Wittmann, who for a number of years had made their home with him. For the past eighteen years, the deceased conducted a grocery business corner Altmeyer alley and Garnier street. He was a member of St. Marys church all his life and when a boy attended the parochial school. He was a charter member of St. Aloysius Literary Society and for many years its president. He was also member of Branch No. 9 Knights of St. George and St. Joseph's Branch C.M.B.A. The deceased was 40 years of age. He is survived by his widow who was Miss Mathilda Kruth, and four children, his mother, two brothers, Joseph J. and Michel, and one sister Mrs. Mary Boyer. The funeral took place this (Friday) morning. Services were held in St. Marys church with solemn requiem high mass for the repose of the soul.
