She regained her feet, but again fell, and the bystanders went to her assistance. She was evidently very ill, and the patrol-wagon was summoned. She was removed to the Homeopathic Hospital, and all that was possible was done for her, but she went from one spasm into another, and at 9:40 o'clock died. The body was removed to the morgue, and Coroner McDowell was notified. The woman was about 5 feet 1 inches in height, weighed about 120 pounds and had long brown hair. Her features were regular and she had the appearance of a woman of good condition. Her symptoms were not those of epilepsy, and the cause of death can not be ascertained until an autopsy is held. The post mortem will be held by Dr Briggs, of the Homeopathic Hospital. from The Pittsburgh Press dated Friday, July 6 1888 (page 1): THE BODY IDENTIFIED The body of the unknown woman who was picked up in an unconscious condition at Third Avenue and Grant Street last evening and who died later at the Homeopathic hospital was identified this morning as that of Mrs Julia Ann WOOD, a widow residing near Thirty-third street. Coroner McDowell held an inquest this morning. The first witness called was J T TOMSLEY (sic), a brother-in-law of the deceased, who testified that deceased was 36 years of age. She had been in poor health for some time, and was taking medicine. She lived at 88 Third avenue. She had been at witness' house on Sunday, but he had not seen her since. Dr Keading, of the Homeopathic hospital, said he had made a post mortem examination of the deceased, and that he had found a scalp wound and one at the base of the brain, probably caused by a fall on the street when she was attacked with convulsions. Death was caused by congestion of the brain.
