Will Filed June 12, 1883. Be it remembered that I John Barr of East Liberty Allegheny County, Pennsylvania being of sound mind and memory, do make and publish this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me at any time heretofore made. And first I direct that my body be decently intered in a manner conforming with my estate and situation in life And as to such wordly estate as it has pleased God to entrust me with, I dispose of the same as follows : First I direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses shall be paid by my Executors as soon as conveniently amy be after my decease. Also – It is my will that the lot of ground whereon I reside situated in the Nineteenth Ward of the City of Pittsburgh, Pa, conveyed to me by Miss Catherine Negley, and I hereby direct in virtue of the power and authority contained in her deed to me for said premises, that after the death of my beloved wife Mary, in case she should survive me, but in case she should not survive me, then as soon as it can be done after my death, the said Lot shall be sold by my executors in fee simple and the nett proceeds therof shall be divided by them as follows, to wit: I direct that one hundred and fifty dollars thereof shall be given to the American Food society in trust to be used and applied for the benefit of the people in Italy known as the Waldenses in such way and manner as the said Society may deem most advisable. – And I direct that the residue of said fund shall be given to and be equally divided between the Biddle Memorial Institute located at Charlotte, North Carolina and the Scotia Seminary located at concord, North Carolina. And all the rest and residue of my estate, real formal and mixed, I give, devise and bequeath to my beloved wife Mary, to have, hold and enjoy the same for and during her natural life. And at her death, I direct that whatsoever may remain of the same shall belong to my daughter Margaret, as her sole and absolute property forever. It is likewise my will that if my said wife should not be living at the time of my decease, the said residency estate shall thereupon go to my said daughter Margaret for the use of herself and her heirs forever. And lastly I nominate and appoint my friends James B. Lynn and Thomas C. Lazear, Executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this tenth day of April A.D. One thousand eight hundred and seventy-two. Johnston Lemuel Spahr Codicil I John Barr the testator above named hereby make the following Codicil to my last will and testament as follows ------------------------------------- Whereas my wife Mary and my daughter Margaret have both died since my said will was signed I hereby direct that the residue of my estate therein devised or bequeathed to them shall be given to the two children of my deceased daughter Margaret share and share alike -------------------------------------------------------- I hereby remove the appointment of James B. Lyon and Thomas C. Lazear as Executors and I appoint in their stead George F. Weitzel and Peter Sprague Executors of my last Will and Testament In witness whereof I have hereto set my hand this twenty ninth day of June AD 1877 Signed published and declared as a codicil to his last will and testament by the testator in presence of us who at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereto set our names as witnesses.
