Will of Alexander McCandless In the name of God Amen I Alexander McCandless of Moon Township in the county of Alleghany & commonwealth of Pennsylvania being weak of body, but of sound mind, memory & understanding blessed be God for the same & considering the uncertainty of this transitory life do make & publish this my last will & testament in manner & form following, to wit, Principally & first of all I commend my immortal soul in the hands of almighty God who gave it & my body to the earth to be buried in a decent & christian like manner at the direction of my executors herein after named. And as to such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life I give & dispose of the same in the manner folling to wit, In the first place it is my will that all my just debts and funeral expences be fully paid & satisfied & as touching the rest vendue & remainder of my estate real & personal of what kind soever the same may be in the county of Allegheny or elsewhere I give & dispose of the same in the manner following, to wit, To my beloved wife Mary I give & bequeath as long as she continues my widdow the house in which I now live & the yard connected with it, the garden, the meadow before the door, one third of the orchard, the three fields lying along William Guys line & one of the sheds conncted with the barn, also rail timber & firewood in such places as are most convenient to the fields & the house. Also one horse, one cow & three sheep all of her own choosing. Also her bed & bedding, her saddle, loom, wheel, kettles, bake oven, looking-glass, one set of tea cups, all the cloth, yarn & flax of her own manufacturing this season, my case of drawers & one years provisions & fifty dollars in money. I will & bequeath my clock to my son William & the remainder of my household furniture beds & bedding to be divided equally between my wife Mary & myh two daughters Jane Elliott & Nancy Records. My books I order to be divided into five equal shares of which my wife & four children shall each receive one. My body clothes & saddle I bequeath to my son Alexander To my daughter Nancy Records I bequeath one hundred & fifty dollars, which I order to be left in my son Williams hands & apid out to her as he sees proper. I also bequeath to my daughter Jane Elliott fifty dollars. I also order that my brother Williams son Alexander receive out of my estate thirty dollars to assist him in obtaining an education of which he has already started. I also order thirty dollars to be left in the hands of the Revíd Michael Law for Montours congregation & thirty more for charitable purposes, both to be paid out as he may deem proper. all the above bequests are to be paid out of my personal property & the remainder to be divided equally amont the grand-children named for me & my first wife. To my son William I bequeath my whole place only the part already bequeathed to my wife during her widowhood & I order him at the death or expiration of the widdowhood of my wife Mary to pay the following legacees i.e. To his son Alexander five hundred dollars. To George Alexander & William Elliot sons of my daughter Jane each one hundred dollars & to her daughter Jane two hundred dollars. To Alexander Records my grand-son five hundred dollars. To my son Alexanders son named Alexander two hundred dollars &his daughter Jane three hundred. Provided any of the above named heirs die before their legacee become due I order their share or shares to be given to their nearest relations. Lastly I do hereby nominate, constitute & appoing my son William McCandless and Revíd Michael Law executors of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all other wills, legacess & bequests heretofore made & declaring this & no other to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 14th day of July in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred & sixteen. Alexander McCandless
