I Washington Parkinson of Jefferson Township, Allegheny County, Pa, being of sound and disposing mind and memory do make and publish the following as my last will and testament revoking all others. First, I direct that my goods and chattels and personal estate generally (except so much thereof as is hereinafter bequeathed) shall be sold or disposed of by my executor hereinafter named, and the proceeds thereof applied to the payment of my debts. Second, I will and bequeath to my beloved daughter, Mary Jane, such articles as she may select out of my household goods, to the value of one hundred and fifty dollars, she and my executors agreeing as to the value thereof, and if not then the sum to be regulated by the general appraisement of my effects. Third, I give and bequeath unto Eliza Pollock, wife of Joseph Pollock, ten dollars and a note for the sum of one thousand dollars and the interest thereon, which I hold upon the said Joseph Pollock, her husband. Fourth, I give and bequeath unto Rachel McElhinny, wife of Holdship McElhinny, for the sum of five hundred and fifty dollars and the interest thereon. Fifth, I devise and bequeath to my daughter Mary Jane, my two houses and lots in the town of West Elizabeth. The said lots being designated as No. Ten and No. Eleven respectively, in the plan of said Town and this devise to be in fee simple. Sixth, I devise and bequeath unto my sons John and James Madison and my daughter Mary Jane the farm whereon I reside and also the adjoining tract formerly owned by Peterson the whole comprising two hundred and seventy four acres more or less. This devise being to them their kids or assigns as equal tenants in common excepting that two certain sums of money heretofore advanced by me to John making the sum of one thousand dollars and the interest thereon since advanced, for which I hold his promissory notes shall be accounted for by him to my executors or otherwise arranged in such a way as that the devise hereby given to him shall be less than that of the two others to the amount of said advancement. Seventh, I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Jane the two cows now on the farm in addition to the chattels mentioned in the former bequest to her. Seventh, I charge my personal estate first (with the exception of such things as are written specially bequeathed) with the payment of all debts and the legacies herein bequeathed, and if the proceeds thereof be found not sufficient in amount, then I charge the payment of the residual on the lands hereby devised to my sons John and James Madison and Mary Jane. And in case of any charge falling upon the aforesaid devisees by which any legacy in whole or in part may have to be paid out of the land, I repeat that it is my intention hereby to give to each of them the said John and the said James Madison and the said Mary Jane an equal share therein‹excepting that the share of John shall be less in value that the share of the other two separately to the extent of the advancement of one thousand dollars and interest, as the same may appear by his promissory notes before mentioned. Eighth, I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah, wife of Henry Heth, Esq, the sum of fifteen hundred dollars (1500). Ninth, and lastly, I constitute and appoint Henry Heth, Esq, and James Madison Parkinson to be Executors of this last will and Testament: Signed, sealed and published as such by me this Eighteenth day of September, One Thousand Eight hundred and Fifty Eight.
