Brown buwbrown@concast.net July 20, 2008, 2:10 pm Report of the Visiting Committee, House of Refuge for Western Pennsylvania at Morganza, Pa.: Mrs. Matilda Saunders applies for discharge of her son Samuel Saunders, aged 14 1/2, now in Class of Honor. She is a widow, lives in 9th Ward Pittsburgh, back of Douglass Row near Hill Planing Mill - makes a living by washing. She intends binding Samuel to Mr. Allen of Allen McCormick & Co.'s Foundry to learn the trade of moulding. She is satisfied that the Institution bind him. Mr. Allen agrees to give $2.50 per week for 1st year, $3.00 the second, and $4.00 the third. The mother to board and clothe him. Your Committee recommends that the Committee of Indenture have discretionary power either to bind or discharge if they are satisfied with the testimonials of Mr. Allen.
