Cast iron, rope lined and rubber lined sheave wheels. Established 1861. James MIlholland, John B. Milholland. 714 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pa. To: Mr. M.S.Quay, Morganza, Pa. Dear Sir:- The writer has had the pleasure of your acquaintance a good many years, especially at the Canonsburg Fair. We introduce ourselves in this manner in order that we may the better enlist your services in bringing to justice a criminal, possibly deserving of a penitentiary verdict. You have in the refuge a young man by that name of William Sloan, who was sent there by the request of his parents about the latter part of January as we understand it. On the 17th of January 1898 we had stolen from our office a typewriting machine. We have followed the matter up until a week or two ago when we found the typewriting machine in Carnegie, Pa. And we have found out that this William Sloan, whose parents are tenants of ours in the vicinity of our works, took this typewriting machine and sold it to a second-hand dealer. Our evidence in this matter is conclusive and the chain is complete. What we want to know is, if he didn't have another person in connection with him at the time he stole this machine. There isn't a particle of doubt as far as the young man himself is concerned, but we want to find out through him if there wasn't another party with him. We want to know if you would permit us to talk with him about this matter, if we would go to the institution, so that we can ascertain this fact, or if you would kindly catechise this boy and see if you could get for us the information we want. We are more desirous to punish the other party than we are this young man. It would be to his advantage to extend to us all the information he can in reference to the other party. Would you kindly extend to us such information as you see proper to assist us in bringing about this matter. If so, your early reply will oblige, Yours very truly, (signed) J. & J.B. Milholland.
