Brown buwbrown@comcast.net July 17, 2008, 11:18 am Report of Visiting Committee, Pennsylvania Reform School, Morganza: Committed Harry Whiting, aged 15 yrs.; committed by Ald. J.C. Reilly of Pittsburgh on complaint of his grandmother Mrs. Maria Whiting for vicious conduct. Rec'd. at Institution July 5, 1879. Committee recommended that he be received. The case of William Nunn is again before committee & his discharge urgently requested by his guardian Mrs. Morgan, who wished to place him in a private school. Mrs. Morgan is giving herself great uneasiness on the boy's account and seems to regret his commitment so much that Committee recommend that boy be discharged on parole to care of his guardan Mrs. Morgan, provided he is sent out of city to school as represented. Committee recommended negatively in cases of William Doyle, John and Stephen Fannen and Frank Meyers, for whose discharge petitions were presented - two having been here but one year and others only a few months. Committee recommends that the boy John Sloan (to whom reference is made in Physician's Report)be discharged to care of his parents, provided they can take care of and provide for his wants under the circumstances. Boy is suffering from Bright's disease and will be a patient for many months. Recommend that Supt. correspond with parents and ascertain their wishes and ability to provide for him. The Committee recommend that Laura James col'd, whose case has been held over for some time, be not received as an inmate and that she be returned to her adopted mother Mrs. Lindsay who will find a home for her in the country. Charles Kerr, aged 16 yrs., committed by John K. Snodgrass, J.P., of Braddock, Allegheny County, on complaint of his father Alexander Kerr for incorrigibility. This boy was an inmate of the Institution from July 1876 to August 1878, at which latter date he was discharged to care of his parents. Rec'd. at Institution July 15, 1879. Com. recommended that he be received. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/pafiles/ File size: 2.5 Kb
