Joseph Heilman pleaded guilty of entering railroad car with intent to commit a felony, on Sept. 10, 1899. Court sentenced him to pay a fine of 6 1/4 cents, pay the costs of prosecution and to be committed to the Pennsylvania Reform School until age 21. Additional Comments: Notes made at time of the boy's arrival at Pennsylvania Reform School, Morganza: Joseph Heilman, #5790, Division C. Parents living at 272 Lowry St., Troy Hill, Allegheny, Pa. Father Nicholas Heilman, a laborer. Sent here for breaking into a freight car on P. & W. R.R. Description: Height 4' 10 1/2"; weight 87 pounds. Light brown hair, dark gray eyes, dark complexion, irregular front teeth, peculiar shaped mouth. Scar from cut in right eyebrow, two scars on left side of head. No vaccine. Age: 14 on May 15, 1899; received Nov. 10, 1899. Born in Penna. of German parentage; Catholic. Father intemperate, mother not intemperate. Parents do not own property. 1 older brother, 1 younger brother, 1 younger sister. Illiterate. Swears, lies, steals, uses tobacco. Is not intemperate. Has been arrested before.
