Brown buwbrown@comcast.net August 1, 2008, 9:34 am Complaint made before John Downey, Alderman of Allegheny County, by J.S. Bell, Humane agent of the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society. Bell, whose address is 440 Sixth Ave., Pittsburgh, deposes that Susie Lewis is incorrigible. Has been placed in different homes & ran away. He picked her up (in the street - crossed out) several times in different places. She is a vicious, bad girl. She is about 17 years of age. Whereabouts of her father, unknown. Mother is dead. Thomas M. Porter, Supt. of the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society, has known Susie Lewis for about four years. Same testimony. Additional Comments: Notes made upon the girl's arrival at the Pennsylvania Reform School, Morganza: Susie Lewis. Father William Lewis is a laborer in a mill but the girl thinks he is dead as she has not known of him since last summer. Mother dead 6 years and girl has been in the charge of the Humane Society for two years. Sent here for leaving places which had been secured for her. Description: Height 5' 1/2"; weight 118 pounds. Dark brown hair and eyes; small scar left of left eye; small mole right of right eye and one on right side of nose; small mouth; even teeth. Age: 17 on Apr. 14, 1900; received Feb. 17, 1900. Born Penna. of Welsh parentage. Baptist. Father intemperate; does not own property. 1 younger brother, 1 older sister. Can read & write. Lies. Does not swear, steal, use tobacco; is not intemperate.
