Brown buwbrown@comcast.net August 5, 2008, 11:00 pm Complaint brought before B.L. Coursin, Alderman in the County of Allegheny, by John Steiner Jr., guardian of Martha Cochrane, born Jan. 1, 1885. Martha is the child of Catherine Cochrane. Her mother lives in Scotland & placed her in my charge. She lies and will noy obey me in any way. George Cochrane, brother of Martha Cochrane, deposes that she is a bad girl. She was in the House of the Good Shepherd. Her mother placed her there once and her brother-in-law placed her there once. She was beyond the control of the people who took care of her. They were very kind to her. Katie Sreiner deposes that she is the sister of Martha. She refuses to do light house work and she frequents places that I forbid her. She runs away from home. Both Mr. Steiner and myself are kind to her. Additional Comments: Notes made upon the girl's arrival at the Pennsylvania Reform School at Morganza: Martha Cochrane. Father dead three years and girl has been living with sister Katie Steiner, 1025 Berlin St., McKeesport. Sent here for refusing to obey sister and running away from home. Description: Height 5'3"; weight 116 pounds; black hair, large gray black eyes; scar on left temple near hair; regular features; incipient mustache. Age: 15 on Jan. 1, 1900; received July 17, 1900. Born Penna. of Scotch parentage. Catholic. Neither parent intemperate; parents own no property. 2 older brothers, 1 older sister. Can read & write. Lies. Does not swear, steal, use tobacco.
