Stophel, uncle of James Edward Stophel, a minor over 10 years of age. He is an orphan and is living at my house. Does not obey, runs away from the house, has stolen money from my pocket. Mary Stophel, wife of Jesse C. Stophel, deposes that she has been trying to raise James Edward Stophel but he has become incorrigible, will run away from the house and "I am afraid he will get hurt along the rail road." Signed by mark. Additional Comments: Notes made at the time of the boy's arrival at Pennsylvania Reform School at Morganza: James E. Stophel, No. 5307, Division B: Parents dead. Has been living with Uncle Jesse C. Stophel, a brakeman, living at Duquesne, Allegheny Co., Penna. Sent here for disobedience, playing truant, etc. Description: height 4' 5 1/2", weight 69 pounds. Brown hair and eyes, medium complexion. Shows front upper teeth some. One vaccine mark on left arm. Age 11 on May 29, 1897; received Apr. 14, 1897. Born Penna. of German parentage. Attends Brethren church. 2 younger brothers, 1 younger sister. Can read & write. Lies. Does not swear, steal, or use tobacco. Is not intemperate. Has been arrested once before.
