Armstrong, mother of Samuel Armstrong, a minor born June 4, 1888. Samuel is beyond her control, does not mind her and will not attend school. He keeps bad company, stays out at night against her wishes and has become incorrigible. (signed) M.G. Armstrong, 1401 Allegheny Ave., Allegheny, Pa. J.R. Duncan, Truant Officer of the City of Allegheny, deposes that he has made several visits to Samuel's home to have him attend school, "but I find that he is beyond the control of his mother who has done all in her power to control him and have him go to school but he is incorrigible." Additional Comments: Notes made upon the boy's arrival at the Pennsylvania Reform School at Morganza: Samuel Armstrong, No. 5835, Division A. Parents livinbg in separation. Father Luby? Armstrong a drummer, whereabouts unknown. Mother, Mrs. Mary G. Armstrong, a seamstress living at 1401 Allegheny Ave., Allegheny, Penna. Sent here for not going to school, disobedience, etc. Description: height 4' 2 1/2", weight 56 pounds. Dark brown hair & eyes, dark complexion. Age: 12 on June 4, 1900; received Jan. 18, 1900. Born Penna. of American parents. Presbyterian. Father intemperate, mother not intemperate. Parents do not own property. 1 younger brother, 3 older sisters. Can read & write.
