Brown buwbrown@comcast.net June 11, 2008, 8:29 am Dr. J.M. Taylor, Kittanning, Pa. to James McCandless, Supt. House of Refuge, Morganza: We have had Sarah A. Gray for more than three months; she is certain to go to destruction if kept about town so I wish to return her to the House of Refuge. Her intellect is very little above idiocy whilst the animal sensualities are very strong. She does not have sufficient mind to comprehend either severity or kindness. Additional Comments: Sept. 23, 1862: Committee on Indentures to be instructed to cancel indenture & the girl returned to the Institution.
