Hodgson, Justice of the Peace, by John Hoskins of Sandy Creek, father of David Hoskins, aged 13 next October. He has frequently left the house and stayed away for a week at a time. Last Saturday, June the 3rd, he left home and didn't see him until the boys captured him and brought him up to a constable. When he is away the men who work near our house complain he steals their dinners. Two weeks ago he stole one dollar from me. Not very long ago he took a pair of pants from a store keeper near our home. Two years ago he shot his little sister in the foot through viciousness. Have never abused him. He is beyond my control. His mother is dead. William Vincent of Sandy Creek deposes: David stole two chickens from me about two months ago and sold them. Not long after that he stole two more, but I got him to bring them back. The boy goes away from his home and stays for a week or so at a time. Lays out on the hills. His father is good to him, don't abuse any of his boys. The other two boys he has no trouble with at all. I have talked to the boy and he acknowledges all the bad things said of him. Says he cannot help being bad. Additional Comments: Notes made at the time of the boy's commitment to Western Pennsylvania Reform School at Morganza: David Hoskins, #5698, Division C. Mother dead.
