Brown buwbrown@comcast.net July 16, 2008, 2:00 pm Letter from George M. Pennar to J.A. Quay, Supt. Western Pennsylvania Reform School, Morganza: I had quite a time locating May McCurdy yesterday, but after getting her I talked with her sister and from her I learned that they believed that she was enceinte, and after that I hunted up the young man who had been going with her and he decided that if his mother would consent, he would marry the girl. He came to the train with us this morning and told us his mother refused at first to consent to his marriage; but that she had relented and said that she would. So, I have told Mr. McCurdy to get the marriage license for the young man, and on the advice of Mr. Lupton I told him he could go out to the school, and they could be married there. Mr. Lupton thought that would be the proper thing to do, but advised me to return the girl to you until he had got the license and married. Handwritten note, evidently directions about where to search for Mary McCurdy: Mary L. McCurdy; father, J.M. McCurdy, 632 Penn Ave. Girl at 11 Montana Street, Allegheny. (The latter address crossed out and replaced with Monitor Street, with some other directions crossed out & illegible).
