Letter on business stationery of Bradford Glass Co. addressed to Mrs. Powell, 
Bradford, Pa., and signed by A.P. Lewis, Partner and General Manager: By your 
request I herein state to you in writing that your son Samuel while in our 
employ was very attentive to his work allways there on time and was earning 
twelve dollars ($12.00) per week and was anxious to do spare jobs to earn a 
living for the family as he frequently said that he was the only male help 
there was in the family.  I was so much pleased with the boy that I told him 
that I would do all I could to secure his papers to learn the trade.  he said 
he would be very grateful to me for such favors.  I have understood that the 
Detective quoted me as saying that he was a bad boy.  This is not so on the 
contrary I spoke in the highest terms of the boy as regards his conduct and 
behaviour at the time and indeavoured to have him let the boy alone as he was 
doing so well and knowing he was your support and believing the boy would do 
right as he had expressed himself to me that he had learnt a lesson that he 
would not forget soon.  Now believing the boy will do what is right I am ready 
at all times to assist such.  You have my prayers that the boy may soon be 
restored to the family.

The business stationery reads "Bradford Glass Works.  Bradford Glass Co., 
Limited.  Manufacturers of window glass.  Made with natural gas."
     Letter found in the institutional correspondence of the Superintendent of 
the Western Pennsylvania Reform School at Morganza, Pa.
