Brown buwbrown April 14, 2009, 4:04 pm House of Refuge, Sept. 16, 1868. Mr. King visiting for the reports as follows: Application of Mr. Laney of Sharon, Mercer County, for discharge of Benjamin H. Laney, aged 19, committed Jan. 4, 1868. Mr. L. is about moving from Sharon to Hubbert, Trumbull Co., Ohio. Committee recommendation: that the rules be suspended & that the case be referred to Ind. Com. with power to act when they have evidence that Mr. Laney has removed to Ohio. William F. Bailey, engineer on a steamboat running on the Ohio River, whose family lives at Beaver, Pa., (request) for a girl to do general work. Clark Boyd's mother applies for the discharge of her son. Boy was committed July 1866 from Monongahela City. Some five months ago while playing at cat and dog, had his left eye knocked out. The boy is doing well & committee requests the discharge of the boy to his mother, who requests his assistance in maintaining his family. Referred to Ind. Com. Michael McGarvey, under 14 years of age, committed by Alderman McMasters of Pittsburgh on complaint of James McGarvey (father) charge beyond control of parents. F.J. Charles W. Ackworth, under 14 years of age, committed by Justice James Dickson of Pollock Township, Lawrence Co., Pa. on complaint of boy's mother (Hannah A.), charge of stealing and bad conduct. F.J. Additional Comments: Ed. note: These are rough notes apparently made by Mr. King. Although the handwriting is quite good, he used many abbreviations.
