Galyean 30562 4th Avenue S.W. Federal Way, Washington My dear Mrs. Galyean: It is difficult for me to express the regrets and sorrow felt by the Marines in this Company over the recent death of your son, Corporal Dewey L. Beatty, U.S. Marine Corp, on 29 July 1967, in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam. Dewey was assigned as an Ontos Commander in our 1st Platoon. On 29 July 1967, his platoon was supporting a battalion-size operation just north of Con Thien. The battalion was on the march when it was subject to heavy attack by enemy mortars and anti-tank weapons. Dewey's vehicle sustained a direct hit resulting in his instantaneous death. Dewey's cheerful disposition, uprightness, and devotion to duty won for him the respect of all who knew him. He was one of the finest Marines we had ever known. Although I realize that words can do little to console you, I do hope the knowledge that your son is keenly missed and that we share your sorrow will in some measure alleviate the suffering caused you by your great loss. If there is anything I can do, please do not hesitate to write me. Sincerely, Thomas J. Solack (signed) Captain, U.S. Marine Corps Commanding This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/pafiles/ File size: 1.8 Kb
