In 1864, he was taken prisoner by Confederates at Blackwater, Va., when his horse fell, pinning him against a tree. He was sent to Salisbury and Libby POW Camps. He leaves five children: sons, Charles C., of Scottdale; Elmer, of Tarentum; Harry A and Jesse of Apollo; one daughter, Miss Retta Bash of Apollo.
