Clair E. Beatty, age 88, died at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village, Monroe OH, on January 24, 2004. Mr. Beatty was born on Easter April 4, 1915 on a farm near Dayton, PA to Stuart McCurdy and Cora Estella (Wilson) Beatty. He was a graduate of Dayton Vocational School, Highland Junior College, Highland KS, Ashland College, Ashland, OH, Western Theological Seminary, Pittsburgh, PA. He was ordained by Steubenville Presbytery in 1940. He pastured Bethel Presbyterian Church Salineville, OH 1939-44, was Executive Secretary of Ohio Christian Endeavor, 1944-49 in Dayton and Columbus, pastor of West Second Presbyterian Church Columbus, OH, 1949-51, pastor of Covington Presbyterian Church Covington, OH, 1951-1969, pastor of New Jersey Presbyterian Church Carlisle, OH 1969-78, Stated Clerk of Miami Presbytery, 1972-93, served 8 interim pastor positions in Miami Presbytery, 1978-93, served as a supply pastor in various churches in Miami Presbytery, 1979-2002. He was a member of Miami Presbytery since 1951. He served on the Board of Trustees of Christian Endeavor International and of Ohio Christian Endeavor, attending conventions all over the country, Canada, and Germany. He served on many boards and participated in many activities in every community in which he lived, including Lions and Meals-on-Wheels. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty (Silvis) Beatty in Oct 2003, whom he married on August 31, 1939. They lived at Mt Pleasant in Monroe since 1995. Also surviving are 4 daughters, Mary Beatty of Wellsville, OH, Edna Palmer of Franklin, OH, Helen Beatty of Lisbon, OH, Carol (Larry) Galyon of Knoxsville, TN, 2 grandchildren Rev Amy (Kenneth) Haines of Payne, OH, Jennifer (Scott) Tucker of Middletown, OH, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters Pearl Beatty, Irene Houser, and 4 brothers Roscoe Beatty, R. Oscar Beatty, T. Dale Beatty, Dwight Beatty, all of PA. Visitation will be at Anderson Funeral Home 40 N. Main St Springboro, OH on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6- 8pm. Visitation will be held at the Roberts Funeral Home in Wellsville, OH on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8pm. Services will be at Roberts Funeral Home on Friday at 11am with burial at Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Salineville, Oh. A service of praise to God will be held later at the Monroe Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers gifts may be given to the Ohio Christian Endeaver, Christian Endeavor International, or Mt Pleasant Life Care Fund.
