    "GIRL, 19, DIES OF PARALYSIS, DAYTON CLOSES ALL SCHOOLS    Public Meetings 
  Banned; Victim is Relative of Valley Residents      SERVICES PRIVATE     The 
  infantile paralysis death of Pearl Beatty, aged 19, today had closed Dayton 
  schools and churches and produced a ban on all public meetings.
       Miss Beatty, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Beatty, contracted the 
  disease slightly more than a week ago.  She weakened rapidly and this week 
  became Armstrong county's first victim of the disease.
       Private funeral services were held a few hours after her death, in the 
  yard of the Beatty home, with the Rev. G. W. McIntyre officiating.  Only adult 
  members of the family were permitted to attend the services and burial in 
  Glade Run cemetery, Dayton.
       C. Nicely Hammer, Dayton high school principal, immediately ordered all 
  public schools closed for a week, or longer if the board of health desires. 
  Young people under 18 years of age are to be kept from the streets during the 
  week-long shutdown.
       No other cases of infantile paralysis have struck Dayton or other 
  sections of Armstrong county, but members of Miss Beatty's family and two 
  homes of relatives have been quarantined.
       Surviving Miss Beatty are her parents; twin brothers, Oscar Beatty of 
  Vandergrift and Roscoe of Mansfield, Ohio; one sister Mrs. Ralph Houser of 
  Knox, and three brothers, Dale Beatty of Oklahoma [ a section of Vandergrift, 
  Pa.], Dwight Beatty of Apollo and Clair Beatty of Mansfield, Ohio."

  Obituary, newspaper unknown:  "Miss Pearl Beatty, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. 
  S. M. Beatty, was stricken last Thursday with Infantile Paralysis and passed 
  away on Sunday evening about 5 o'clock.  Miss Beatty had been a visitor in 
  Vandergrift and had come home on September 9 to attend the Fair in Dayton.  
  She complained of not feeling well on Thursday but the following Thursday her 
  case was diagnosed as Paralysis.  Miss Beatty was a graduate of D.V.S in the 
  class of 1937.  She was a good Christian girl and our hearts go out to her 
  parents.  Interment was made in Glade Run Cemetery on Monday with short 
  services at the grave."

  Article in unknown newspaper:  	"QUARANTINE NEAR END IN DAYTON, PA.      
  Infantile Paralysis Held To Two Cases.     Two cases of infantile paralysis, 
  one fatal, in Dayton, Armstrong County, Pa., and vicinity recently resulted in 
  a general quarantine as a precaution against a possible epidemic of the 
  disease.  Barring further appearance of the malady, the quarantine, which was 
  ordered September 13, will be lifted tomorrow night, according to S. P. 
  Butler, secretary of the Dayton board of health.
  A 19-year-old Dayton girl was stricken with infantile paralysis and died in 
  her home last Sunday while officials sought an 'iron lung' to aid her 
  breathing.  A school teacher at nearby Hawthorn is now fighting the disease in 
  a Punxsutawney hospital.
  The quarantine closed schools, churches, theaters, and prohibited all public 
  gatherings, while confining children to their homes."

  Article in unknown newspaper:  DAYTON SCHOOLS REOPEN TODAY    Dayton school 
  children entered class rooms this morning for the first time in ten days, 
  resulting of passing of the infantile paralysis scare.
  The school was closed all day Friday, the 17th, in observance of Constitution 
  Day, and in view of the fatal illness of a high school graduate there, was 
  closed all last week.
  Church services, which had been banned under quarantine the previous week, 
  resumed yesterday morning."

  sister, Pearl Beatty, who was Secretary of our Guild and who companionship 
  will be missed by our members; therefore, be it Resolved, That we the members 
  of the Circle of the Westminster Guild, bow in humble submission to the will 
  of God Who knoweth and doeth all things well, and extend to the bereaved 
  parents and family our heartfelt sympathy, And be it further Resolved, That we 
  send these resolutions to the bereaved parents and family and publish them in
