Sam had been considerably intoxicated on the previous evening, and in attempting to find his way into the house, where he lodged, is supposed to have missed his footing, falling into the cellar, the door of which had been left open, where he remained during the night. His death is attributed to injuries in the fall, and exposure to the cold on Monday night.
