"Jack" Gibbons, 66 of 414 N. Sixth St., Apollo, died Sunday (July 25, 1993) in West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Nov. 11, 1926, in Sharpsburg, he lived in Apollo most of his life. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Gibbons worked at Joseph Finch Distillery in Scheneley before retiring in 1986. From 1963 to 1983 he worked in the plant security department of Babcock and Wilcox in Apollo. He also worked as a constable and part-time police officer in both Apollo and Kiskiminetas Township. Mr. Gibbons was a member of First Lutheran Church of Apollo and the church council, life member of Apollo Hose Cos. 2 and 3, and a member of Armstrong County and Western Pennsylvania State Fireman's associations, and Apollo/Spring Church Sportsmens' Club. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Louise Ament Gibbons; two sons, both of Apollo; a daughter, Linda Shellhammer of Middleburg; four grandchidlren; and a stepbrother, David R. Sloan of Kiskiminetas Township. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Gibbons and Margaret Wikert Gibbons Sloan; and his step-father, Russell Sloan. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Curran Funeral Home Inc., 322 N. Second St., Apollo, where services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday by the Rev. David Baker. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Apollo. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Apollo.
