W. Shumaker, former well known lady of the Distant section, Armstrong county, died at her home in East Palestine, Ohio, Friday, June 28, 1940, following an illness of long duration. Ella Rearick Shumaker was born April 28, 1867 at Distant, Armstrong county, Pa. On November 8, 1887 she was married to David Webster Shumaker at the home of the bride’s parents. Surviving are her husband and two daughters, Mrs. William Gearhart, of Wilkinsburg, and Mrs. Edgar Myers, East Palestine; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters and one brother, Mrs. L. J. Shumaker, Distant; Mrs. L. C. Ellenberger, Kittanning; Mrs. Fred Yungk, Kellogg, Idaho, and M. A. Rearick of Distant. For many years the Shumaker family resided in Mahoning township, Armstrong county, but more than twenty years ago, moved to the present home at East Palestine, Ohio. Funeral services were held there Sunday at 3:00 p.m. and on Monday the body was taken to Distant where services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. followed by interment in the Distant cemetery.
