Silvis, for many years a well known and hard-working resident of New Bethlehem, died at his late home in East Board street, Friday, January 28, 1938, aged 69 years, 5 months and 21 days. Born October 7, 1888 at New Bethlehem, he was the son of the late William and Catherine (Mohney) Silvis. Save for several years spent in the West, Mr. Silvis was a life-long resident of this place. In 1891 he was united in marriage to Margaret Chandler, who survives. Though their union five children were born, all of whom survive, namely: Harry of Dayton, Pa.; Mrs. Tam McMillen of this place; John, Manola and Mrs. Geraldine Ardery at home. Of his father’s family, three brothers and two sisters survive: Mrs. Alice Emick, Dr. G. M. Silvis, Mrs. Blanche Carrier, Dr. William Silvis of South Bethlehem. With the advent of automobile, Mr. Silvis became interested in it mechanics, and was long a well known local mechanic. For a number years prior to his recent illness he conducted a repair shop here with his son-in-law, Tom McMillen, at this place. Funeral services in his memory were held Sunday afternoon from the M. E. Church and were conducted by Rev. Roy R. Decker, pastor of the New Bethlehem M. E. Church. Interment under the direction of Morticians R. F.
