Gust Goehring
08/04/1848 - 08/29/1870

Comment: Lower inscription of stone triggered an 
investigation,The part readable states "Gust and Henry 
Goehring were killed by lightning ------,a lot in this 
cemetery on which to bury their brother." A newspaper 
article in the Pittsburgh Gazette on Sep 1 1870 tells of 
Louis [Gearing] and an unnamed brother being killed in the 
Freeport Cemetery,along with a sexton,when they were hit by 
lightning as they picked out a grave for another unnamed 
brother who had just died. The tombstone inscription makes 
it clear that Gust was the other brother killed by 
lightning,A s/o Louis had also just died the day before of 
typhoid fever making 4 deaths that week within the same 
household. Gust [Augus] can be found in the 1860 census of 
Brady's Bend,one of 5 brothers and 1 sister living with 
their father,Henry,
