A.D. one thousand nine hundred and fourteen personally appeared before me, a notary public within and for the county and state aforesaid, Laura Funkhouser, aged 81 years, a resident of East Palestine, county of Columbiana, State of Ohio, who, being duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain pension under teh provisions of the Act of Congress approved April 19, 1908. That she is the widow of Madison Funkhouser, who was enrolled under the name Madison Funkhouser, at New Brighton, PA, on the 24th day of May 1861 as a private in Co. H 9th Regiment Penna _____, and honorably discharged May 12th 1864, having served niney days or more during the late civil war. That he also served (only as above) That he was not in the military or naval service of the United States otherwise than as stated above. That she was married under the name of Laura Crans to said soldier at New Brighton Pa on the 26th day of November 1857 by Rev. Samuel Cowan?; that there was no legal barrier to the marriage; that she had not been previously married; that the soldier had not been previously married, and that neither she nor said soldier married otherwise than as stated above. That said soldier died Sept. 5th 1914 at East Palestine, Ohio. That the said soldier left the following named children who are now living and under sixteen years of age, to wit: none That she has not heretofore applied for pension. Sutherin, residing in East Palestine, Ohio, and _____, residing in _____, persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who, being by me duly sworn, say they wre present and saw Laura Funknhouser , the claimant, sign her name (or make her mark) to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe, from the appearance of said claimant and their acquaintane with her of 40 years and 15 years respectively, that she is the identical person she represents herself to be, and that they have no interest in the prosecution of this claim.
