Pa., Feb. 28. Harry J. Boyd, 92, one of two remaining Civil War veterans in Beaver County, died today in his 445 College Avenue home. He was injured in a fall several days ago. He was the last surviving member of the Beaver post of the G. A. R. He was born in Philadelphia, July, 1847, son of a printer, and moved to Hookstown, Beaver County, when a youth. At the outbreak of the war he enlisted, when 17, in the Eighth Company of the 140th Pennsylvania Volunteers. Following the war he opened a store in Smith's Ferry, Pa., which was washed away in the flood of 1884. For 13 years he was index clerk in the Prothonotary's office. His son, Daniel J., who died several years ago, was a former prothonotary. Mr. Boyd was prominent in real estate work and secretary of the Dollar Building and Loan, the Beaver County Building and Loan, and the Mutual Fire Insurance organizations. Mr. Boyd was a Mason and a member of the Beaver First Presbyterian Church. Funeral services Thursday, March 2, from his late home at 2:30. Interment Beaver Cemetery.
