Ezra Pittman, born Bedford County, PA, married Elizabeth Knable, born in Bedford County, PA. Elizabeth was a daughter of John Knable, of an old PA Dutch family. Ezra & Elizabeth were parents of Joseph K. Pittman, born in 1840 in Bedford County, PA. Joseph K. Pittman enlisted in the Civil War as a private on 19 November 1861 at Warfordsburg, PA., in Co. B and was taken into the 3rd Maryland Volunteer Infantry, where he served 3 years & 3 months. Joseph K. was promoted from private to corporal, to orderly sergeant, to first lieutenant, with which rank he was honorably discharged. He moved to Knox Co., Illinois in 1865 and farmed near Galesburg for 13 years. In 1878 the family moved to Lincoln Co., Kansas, took up a homestead and lived there until 1888, when they removed to Gage Co., Nebraska, where he was a farmer & stock-raiser. Jospeh K. Pittman married in Knox Co., Illinois with Mary F. Bower, born in Ohio, daughter of Jacob E. & Susan (Bryan) Bower. Joseph K. & Mary had 12 children, 1 of which died in childhood. The other children were: Jasper D. Pittman; Joseph Pittman; Ulysses G. Pittman; Ezra Pittman; William Pittman; Edwin Pittman; Roy Pittman; Robert Pittman; Susan Pittman; Jessie Pittman; Mary Pittman.
