Koontz was married to Catherine Hershberger. LAND DEPARTMENT COMMONWEATH OF PENNSYVANIA TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME, GREETING: Know you, that inconsideration of the money paid by John Wolf, at the granting of the Warrant hereinafter mentioned, and of the sum of twelve dollars and ninety-four cents, in full of arrearages and fees, since paid by Henry Koons, into the Treasury Office of this Commonwealth there is granted by the said Commonwealth, unto the said Henry Koons, a certain tract of Land, situate in St. Clair Township, Bedford County: Beginning at a Chestnut oak; thence by lands of George Weissell and James Jones; north seventy nine degrees West, one hundred and seven and eight tenths perches to a Linn; thence by land of James Jones and Allegheny Mountain, South one degree West, ninety two and six tenth perches to a sugar; thence lay land of Frederick Shoaf, (formerly Joseph Everett) South eighty degrees East, twenty eight perches to a white oak; thence north twenty degrees East forty perches to a Chestnut oak; South sixty five degrees East, ninety perches to a Chestnut; thence south twenty three degrees East, forty one perches to a post; thence by land of Aaron Garretson, (formerly Jonathan Bowen) North forty and a half degrees East, fifty and a half perches to a Post; and thence by land of Thomas Hannah, north forty degrees west, one hundred perches to the beginning: Containing sixty three acres and three fourths, and allowance. Which said tract was surveyed in prusuance of a Warrant dated the first of June AD 1838, granted to the said John Wolf, whose right in and to the same, by virtue of sundry conveyances and other assurances in law, became vested in the same Henry Koons. TO HAVE AND TO HOLD THE SAID TRACT OR PARCEL OF LAND, WITH THE APPURTENANCES UNTO THE SAID Henry Koons and his heirs, to the use of him, the said Henry Koons, his heirs and assigns forever. Free and clear of all restrictions and reservations as to mines, quit rents, or otherwise, excepting and reserving only the fifth part of all gold and silver ore for the use of the Commonwealth, to be delivered to the PitŐs mouth clear of all charges. In testimony whereof John W. Geary, Governor of the said Commonwealth hath hereunto set his hand, and the seal of the office of the surveyor General of Pennsylvania hath been hereunto affixed, the twentieth day of May, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty nine and the commonwealth the Ninety third.
