Walker Esquire Judge of the United States for the Western District of Pennsylvania; personally appeared, John Gunnell a resident of Bedford County, and state aforesaid aged fifty five years & upwards who by me being duly sworn doth on his oath make the following declaration That in the year Seventeen hundred & Eighty he enlisted in Petersburgh Virginia with Captain John Linton in a Regiment of U. S. Dragoons on Light horses usually commanded by Lieut. Col. Washington was at the Battle of Eutaw Springs. &- the Battle of the Cowpens & sundry skirmishes & at the said Battle of the Cowpens received a wound by a Sabre in the sword arm & hand & also in the head at the said Battle of the Cowpens & served during the War or until its close as a Soldier in said Regiment of Dragoons in the Revoluntary War in the Continental establishments & at the close of the war was honorably discharged at Winchester Virginia that he hath now lost his discharge. That he is now in reduced circumstances with a Constitution much impared & stands in need of the assistance of his Country for support & that he hath not now in his possession any further evidence of his said service in his ^in his^ ____ Which he declares on oath as aforesaid & that he hath never heretofore received any pension from the United States.
