Bedford Inquirer And Chronicle. (Bedford, Pa.) December 14, 1855
In the year 1784, the Legislature of Pennsylvania, to abolish the practice then
prevailing, passed the following resolution after considerable opposition: "That
hereafter, no member shall come into the chamber barefooted, nor eat his cheese on
the steps of the Capitol."
