(Ebensburg, Pa.) 1867-1938: August 16, 1872 August 16, 1872 Barnes, Samuel At Portage, this county, last Monday, Samuel Barnes attempted to jump on a passing freight train, but missed his footing and fell on the track. The car wheels passed over one of his legs, and so dreadfully mangled it that amputation became necessary. The unfortunate man survived the operation only a couple of hours. He was about 20 years old, and a resident of Bedford county. His remains were interred at Wilmore on Wednesday.
