Nelson Alsip died suddenly this morning in the office of Frank P. Ake, Justice of the Peace, on the Public Square at this place. Shortly before that he had been to the drug store and asked Mr. Ed. Heckerman for some medicine, complaining of a pain at his heart, and upon receiving same and being advised to lie down, returned to Mr. Ake's office, where he spent the greater part of his time, being found dead there a few minutes afterward by Mr. Ake who had been absent but a short time. Deceased was a son of the late Joseph Alsip, a hotel proprietor at this place during the Civil war. He was born at McConnellsburg and was aged about 69 years. During his boyhood the family came here from Chambersburg and in early manhood he was employed as a clerk in the Prothonotary's office, later studying law with Hon. Geo. H. Spang and being admitted to the Bedford county bar Nov. 22, 1882. He was employed for a while by the Pennsylvania railroad company, at Wilmington, Del., and later had a position in Cumberland, returning to Beford several years ago. He is survived by a sister and a brother, Mrs. Elizabeth Helman and Reamer Alsip, both of Cumberland. Arrangements for the funeral have not been made but interment will take place here.
