Claycomb, 77, a prominent citizen, merchant and churchman of Everett died at his home, 237 East Main Street, Everett, yesterday after a long illness. Mr. Claycomb had been a resident of Everett for more than 50 years, originally coming to the town as a clerk for Barndollar Supply Store in 1900. He was active for more than 50 years in the affairs of the Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church, and served as an elder of that congregation for 50 years. He was also a member of the consistory. Several years after he came to Everett he bought and operated for many years the present D. F. Whetstone Drug Store and later founded and managed the T. A. Claycomb Wholesale and Retail Candy and Tobacco Co. Mr. Claycomb was among a group of 21 Everett business men through whose efforts the Everett sewing factory building and land were donated. He also served for 16 years as a director for the Everett Cash Mutual Fire Insurance Co., and served for four years as vice-president, an office he held at the time of his death. Thomas A. Claycomb was born February 11, 1876, in Pleasantville, the son of Andrew and Mary (Weyant) Claycomb. He was united in marriage June 7, 1899, with S. Emma Oster, who preceded him in death January 2, 1947. Mr. Claycomb is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Iva Bailey, of Everett, two grandsons, Thomas Bailey of Bedford Route 4, an officer of the First National Bank in Bedford, and Robert L. Bailey, an Everett Bank officer, along with one great-granddaughter. A daughter, Marian Arlene, died in 1929. Funeral services Saturday, July 4, 2:30 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church, Everett, Rev. Clyde Way Officiating. Interment at Reformed Cemetery, Osterburg, under direction of Stewart Funeral Service. Friends may call at the late home from 6 p.m. Thursday until noon Saturday.
