CROFT, CONTRACTOR, DIES IN 90TH YEAR John W. Croft, well known retired contractor, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary E. Barnes of Hollidaysburg, at 10.45 o'clock Tuesday morning after a short illness. He was born in Bedford county on June 14, 1858, the son of Philip and Mary (Watson) Croft and was united in marriage with Miss Hannah E. Appleman in September 1879. Surviving are three daughters and one son: Mrs. Mary E. Barnes of Hollidaysburg, Mrs. Goldie E. Fetzer of Frankstown, Mrs. Amanda K. Rorabaugh of Altoona, and Howard A. Croft of Altoona. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, three nieces and two nephews. His wife preceded him in death as did one son, John A. Croft. Mr. Croft spent most of his later life at his cottage at Linds Crossing. Mr. Croft was a building contractor and among his many achievements was work on the Roaring Spring blank book factory. He also built many beautiful churches throughout surrounding towns. Mr. Croft was a member of the Baptist church.
