All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/bedford/ _______________________________________________ James Zeigler Frazier James Zeigler Frazier, Esq., died at his residence in Bedford on Wednesday night at 11 o'clock. He was quite ill for some days and finally his heart was affected, and then came death. He was a son of James Frazier, who was married to Miss Elizabeth Zeigler. He was born on the very crest of the Allegheny mountains, in Somerset county, Pa., on the 16th day of June, 1834. He married Miss Emma Dannaker, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dannaker, of Schellsburg. They removed to Bedford in 1884. Mr. Frazier was elected a justice of the peace of Bedford borough in 1888, on the Democratic ticket, has twice been re-elected and has filled that office in a very satisfactory manner for twelve years. He was a faithful and efficient member of the Lutheran church of Bedford and belonged to the Schellsburg lodge, Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He was an honest, upright, charitable man, a useful citizen and a kind and affectionate husband and father. His death will be generally felt and lamented. The following facts are gleaned from a history of John Fraser (who came to Raystown, now Bedford, with Colonel Washington in 1758) by Hon. William P. Schell, published in THE GAZETTE, August 5, 1808. Jonn Fraser was commissioned as one of the justices of the peace of Bedford county, and a judge of the several courts, on the 11th of March, 1771, which he held until the time of his death, on the 16th of April, 1773. He left surviving him, his wife and eight children, namely, James, Margaret, William, Benjamin, Catharine, Jane, Mary and Amelia. William Fraser, the grandfather of the deceased, James Zeigler Fraser, had nine children, to wit: John II , James 1, William II, Montgomery, Thomas, Benjamin II, Margaret, Jane and Catharine. "His son, James Fraser, father of James Zeigler Frazier, deceased, had ten children, namely, Amelia, Ellen, William, Elizabeth, Louise, Catharine, James Zeigler II, (the decedent), John and Scott. "The above named James Z. Fraser III, is a great grandson of John Fraser, and is now a justice of the peace, and a prominent citizen of Bedford. His grandfather, William Fraser, was the first white child born within the limits of Bedford county," James Z. Frazier, Esq., the subject of this sketch, is survived by his wife and three children - Ross, of Kansas City, Kan., William and Margaret, of Bedford. Funeral services will be held at the home of decedent, Sunday morning at 9 o'clock and will be conducted by Rev. M. L. Culler, pastor of the Lutheran church.
