On Wednesday evening at 10.20 o'clock, the Death Angel visited our community and claimed as its victim John Wesley Helsel. Mr. Helsel was born in Freedom township, Blair county, February 6, 1847, and died March 19, 1919, aged 72 years, 1 month and 13 days. Mr. Helsel was united in marriage to Jane Reffner September 25, 1869. Seven children were born to this union, three of whom preceded him to the great beyond. He is survived by his wife, one son and three daughters: Irvin D., of Braddock; Mrs. Rufus Koontz, of Yellow Creek; Mrs. Loretta Frederick, of Altoona, and Carrie at home. Also the following brothers and sisters: David, of Hollidaysburg; Albert, of Well's Tannery; Mrs. Mary McIntyre, of Hollidaysburg; Mrs. George Kerns, Mrs. Blanche Rodkey and Mrs. Margaret Glassgow, all of Altoona, and twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Helsel engaged in farming all his life. He was a member of Washington Camp No. 499 P.O.S. of A. at Salemville. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 10 o'clock in the Holsinger Church of the Brethren by Rev. Levi Holsinger. Interment in the cemetery at the church.
