All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/beford/ _______________________________________________ ALEXANDER ICKES DIES AT HOME NEAR IMLER Alexander Ickes, one of Bedford county's foremost citizens and one of her oldest residents, died at his home near Imler this morning, death being due to the infirmities of age. Mr. Ickes was born in Bedford county on Sept. 4, 1836, being aged 84 years, 4 months and 10 days, the son of Peter and Sarah Imler, deceased, and had resided in that vicinity all his life. He was married in April, 1858, to Mary A. Ickes, who survives, with seven children, Mrs. Sarah Eicher of Queen, Philip Ickes of Imler, Mrs. Jennie Corl of Pavia, Mrs. James Recy of Johnstown, Mrs. Lucy Recy of Lorain, O., Mrs. H. S. Bracken of Johnstown and Milton Ickes, at home. Two children, a son and a daughter, preceded him in death and he is also survived by twenty-five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Mr. Ickes was a veteran of the Civil war, having rendered his country valuable service through two enlistments, being finally discharged from the service at the end of the war. He served the township of King, Bedford county, four terms as constable and was the justice of the peace in the township for twenty years. He was a member of the reformed church at Imler and a member and an active worker in the Men's Adult Bible class. He was an earnest Christian gentleman and a kind neighbor, being loved and admired for his many good deeds in the community. The funeral will be conducted at the Pavia Reformed church on Sunday morning at 10 o'clock in charge of Rev. John A. Border. Interment will be made at Pavia. Altoona Mirror, Friday, January 14, 1921
