Miller, a retired farmer of near Baker's Summit, died at his home at 3:40 o'clock Thursday afternoon of last week, after an illness of over two years, death being caused by cancer. Deceased was born near Loysburg, July 4, 1853. He was the oldest son of Jacob H. and Martha Barclay Miller, both deceased. He spent the early part of his life at the carpenter trade, afterward following farming until he retired five years ago. He was twice married, his first wife being Mary Amanda Rugglestine, of near Roaring Spring, who died in 1887. To their union four children were born, who survive as follows: Mrs. Myrtle Biddle, of Gallitzin; Mrs. Martha Bowers, of East Freedom; Orlando G. Miller, of near Roaring Spring, and Mrs. Effie Markley, of Bellwood. He was again married August 8, 1889, to Nancy C. Pote, who with the following children survive: Mrs. Ina Shoemaker and Mrs. Virgie Eshelman, of Baker's Summit; Palmer E. Miller, of Hopewell, and Ernest P. and Sherwood E. at home. Also the following brothers and one sister: Edward B., of Hollidaysburg; Albert B., of East Freedom; James B., of Martinsburg; Elmer B., of near Henrietta, and Mrs. Maria Stayer, of Claysburg. He is also survived by twenty-one grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. In politics he was a Democrat, holding the office of road supervisor of Bloomfield township at the time of his death. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren for twenty-eight years. His funeral was held Sunday morning at 10 o'clock at the Holsinger church, near Baker's Summit. Services were conducted by Rev. D. T. Detwiler, of New Enterprise, assisted by Rev. J. C. Stayer, of Woodbury. Interment was made in the Holsinger cemetery. Martinsburg Herald, November 10, 1922
