MITCHELL Dora (Shaffer), wife of Joseph Henry Mitchell, died at her home in New Paris on Aug. 19 after an illness of almost a year. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Evangelical Church at that place, Rev. M. L. Kaufman officiating. Interment in the Reformed cemetery in charge of Mortician J. Clifford Blackburn. A daughter of Rev. John and Mary Shaffer, she was born Aug. 10, 1862, in Shenandoah Valley, Va. Besides her husband, she leaves the following children: Emmett, Charles and Thomas, all of New Paris; Mrs. Hartley Clark of Osterburg, Mrs. Effie Ferguson and Mrs. Sewell Griffith of Schellsburg. Also, 26 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one brother. MRS. DORA MITCHELL, NEW PARIS RESIDENT MANY YEARS, DIES A marriage tie of 55 years as broken with the death of Mrs. Dora (Shaffer) Mitchell, at her home in New Paris at 9 a.m. yesterday. She had been ill 11 months. Mrs. Mitchell, resident of the Bedford County community for many years was an active member of the Evangelical Church there. She became the wife of Mr. Mitchell on July 1, 1883. A native of Virginia, she was born in the Shenandoah Valley on August 10, 1862, a daughter of Rev. John and Mary Shaffer. In addition to her husband, she leaves three daughters, Mrs. Effie Ferguson and Mrs. Sewell Griffith, both of near Schellsburg, and Mrs. Hartley Clark, Osterburg, and four sons, Ralph, Emmett, Charley and Thomas Mitchell, all of New Paris, twenty-six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren also survive with four brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Evangelical Church, New Paris, by Rev. Martin Kauffman of Alum Bank. Interment in the nearby Reformed Cemetery will be directed by J.
