All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/bedford/ ________________________________________________ HARRY CRIST MOCK Harry Crist Mock, of Potter Creek, Bedford county, died from the effects of two strokes of apoplexy at his home Friday evening, February 7, at 5:30 o'clock, at the advanced age of 76 years and 26 days. He was preceded to the grave by a daughter, Martha, and a son, George. He is survived by his widow, who was Miss Matilda Imler, and these children: Frederick Mock, of Hollidaysburg R.D. No. 2; Blair and David, of Claysburg; Harry, of Freemont, O; Charles, of Mt. Union; J. Irvin, of Woodbury; Mrs. C. L. Croft, of Waterside; Arthur G. and Mrs. Annie Carson, of Altoona; Mrs. Lloyd Hoffman, of Woodbury, R.D. 1; Mrs. Celia Snyder, of Baker's Summit, and Mrs. J. Roy Walter, of Bedford county; also by one brother, John Mock, of Baker's Summit; one sister, Mrs. Ephraim Delozier, of Roaring Spring, and by a number of grandchildren. Mr. Mock was always a staunch Republican and held a number of offices of public trust. H. C. Mock was a son of Frederick Mock, who had formerly been a hotel man at Pattonsville (Loysburg) Bedford county, but later moved to Mowry's Mill, where H. C. Mock was born and grew to manhood. Early in 1861 he enlisted with the union army to engaged in the great Civil war, he with his comrade, Cyrus Riffle, of Johnstown, Pa., were engaged in these great battles: Wilderness, Antietam, Gettysburg, in the great raids of the Shenandoah Valley, Spottsylvania, Cold Harbor and was at Lee's surrender at Appomatox courthouse and other minor engagements, and was mustered out at the close of the war in 1865, given an honorable discharge. After two years of civil life he was united in marriage with Miss Matilda Imler, September 19, 1867, at Claysburg, by Elias Dell, J.P., and to this union fourteen children were born. About twenty-five years ago Mr. Mock moved to this neighborhood, following farming until later when he engaged in the mercantile business, retiring a few years ago. The funeral cortege will leave the home Tuesday morning at 9:30. J. N. Byers, funeral director. Services to be conducted at the Barley Lutheran church at 10 a.m. by his pastor, Rev. C. F. Gephart.
