EBEN PENNELL Mrs. Eben Pennell, an aged resident of Bedford, died at 7 o'clock Thursday evening of last week [10/12]. The deceased was the older sister of the venerable David Over, senior editor of Hollidaysburg Register, and the late Jacob Z. Over, at one time editor of the Fulton Republican. She was the daughter of John and Catherine Over and was born in Franklin county just eighty years before the final summons came. She died on her birthday. When a child Mrs. Pennell came to Bedford with her parents. On November 12, 1842, she was united in marriage to Eben Pennell in the house in which she breathed her last and where they spent a happy honeymoon of nearly sixty years. Six of the eleven children born to them are still living, namely, Edward M. Pennell, Esq., George S. Pennell and Miss Lou Pennell of Bedford; Mrs. Lillie S. Barefoot of Lincoln township; Mrs. Annie T. Welshonee, of Everett, and Mrs. Kate Radebaugh, of Queen Anne, Md. Besides these children her husband, who is in his eighty-fourth year, survives her. The funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon at the home of decedent and were conducted by Rev. Irvin W. Hendricks, pastor of the Reformed church. Interment was made in the Bedford cemetery. Mrs. Pennell joined the Reformed church when she was quite young and has been a consistent member ever since. Her tranquil journey through life was like the silent journey of the sun through its subscribed course, quietly giving light and comfort and cheer to many.
